FASHION ROCKS CONCERT [PERFORMANCES].....

Last night, the Fashion Rocks concert aired on CBS. Performers included Beyonce, Solange, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Fergie, Duffy, The Pussycat Dolls, Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey and a host of others. Beyonce who plays Etta James in the upcoming movie 'Cadillac Records' paid tribute to the legend by performing her rendition of 'At Last':

I'll comment on a select few performances. Some of you may have watched some of the LQ performances on YouTube over the past week, but all the HQ performances can be watched here. As for Beyonce's performance of 'At Last', vocals were on another level. Beyonce tore it up. And it's pretty frightening to see how much of a striking resemblance Beyonce has to Etta when the legendary diva was in her prime. 10 or 20 years from now that could be somebody elses daughter paying a musical tribute to Ms Beyonce herself since this is Beyonce's dream to become just as legendary. I can already see 'Crazy In Love' being a tribute-worthy song in the years to come. Soon after that she did a duet with Justin Timberlake, the Motown classic 'Aint Nothing Like The Real Thing', which was a great sexy performance. There were lots of stage chemistry. Beyonce also took to the stage a third time to do yet another Motown performance which she did really well in.

I really enjoyed Justin Timberlake's solo stint of Marvin Gaye's 'Got to Give It Up'. It was a very slick and charming performance. The falsetto vocals boded well with the actual mood of the song. You can hate him all you like but you can't really deny that he performs with such style and swagger and that he brings the fire musically. I'm totally looking forward to his new album when it drops. Solange performed 'I Decided'. It was a nice performance, but we've pretty much seen the same routine a dozen times already so there wasn't much anticipation to see it all over again. Beyonce and Matthew Knowles were seen watching proudly from the audience. I think she's done quite well on the solo tip as a whole. Hopefully, sales will eventually pick up for 'Sol-Angel and The Hadley St. Dreams'. Whether it's commercial-friendly or not, the album was very solid. Mariah Carey performed her new single 'I'm That Chick'. The intro was cool but expectations weren't that high to begin with. As usual, Mariah can be seen doing her million and one hand gestures and looking totally delicious in one of many sexy figure-hugging cleavage-baring dresses (she could have at least sang live considering).

Rihanna performed her own rendition of Madonna's 'Vogue'. Vocally, she sounded decent, which shouldn't have been an issue considering that Madonna is no vocalist herself and the song is not a vocally-challenging song. The performance was well, samey Rihanna. Not much energetic input which is what the song would have required. Madonna practically tore this song up live performance-wise. The poses were relevant I guess but so much more could have been done. I'll definetely say it was a better performance than her VMA effort of 'Disturbia' a couple of days ago. Chris Brown's tribute to Sam Cooke was rather cute but it was his dancentric performance of 'Forever' that landed him his standing ovation towards the end. I got to admit the performance was hot despite it being painfully obvious that he lip synced all through it. I've come to accept that C. Breezy is mainly a performer and not much of a singer so I don't even expect nothing more and nothing less. Check out all the other performances after the cut.
