I hate the mushroom. Aaaaagh! Reportedly, after being dropped from Jive records due to her last album Kelis Was Here underperforming, she is currently recording an independent dance album with Cee-Lo Green. It could also see collaborations from KeyBeats, Chocolate Factory and Scottish electronic producer Calvin Harris. Not sure about the pop route though. I however loved Kelis for her unique musical style because it was like nobody else's. Her last album was pretty solid but it wasn't marketed right.
