THE 50TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS + ALL PERFORMANCES INSIDE [OFFICIAL POST]....

UPDATE: MY REVIEW AND PERFORMANCES NOW ADDED. On Sunday, February 10th, the 50th Annual Grammy Awards aired live. Some musicians looked amazing and well, others didn't. You can use this post to talk about performances and celebrity appearances that went down throughout the night. Who looked like dog poo and who looked like royalty? Who delivered in their performance and who didn't? Discuss it right here! Meanwhile, Beyonce finally made her arrival:

I was feeling the shorter hairdo but not the actual blonde. From a far, she looks like a tanned white girl. The sky blue Princess Barbie dress didn't really work in her favour either. As for her performance with singing legend Tina Turner, you can read my review after the cut. Beyonce arrived at the event with boyfriend Jay-Z, sister Solange and her mother Tina. More pictures will be added throughout the day so keep checking back to see more action!

TOYA'S PERFORMANCE REVIEWS!

BEYONCE & TINA TURNER:
Beyonce's intro was hot, and even her old-skool swing-style spin on Deja Vu was pretty effective. I didn't really care for Tina's performance although it was good to see her perform one of her biggest ever hits "What's Love Got To Do With It". She hid her famous legs by wearing a silver tin foil outfit. Even though she was botoxed to death, for a woman of nearly 70, she looked good!

Beyonce's actual duet with Tina was pretty underwhelming. There was nothing WOW about that performance and she was lip syncing as well. Although, Tina may have been too old to rock Beyonce's dress (which became the highlight of her career), I guess Beyonce held it down for her. However, I just wasn't impressed with Beyonce's performance.

ALICIA KEYS:
Although Alicia's tribute to Frank Sinatra was boring, vocally, she did not disappoint. I thought she did a nice job of the song. It's nice that you don't hear much of a strain in her vocal delivery which has been very apparent in previous live performances.

When I first discovered that Alicia would be performing with John Mayer, my initial reaction was 'great! They're performing Lesson Learned'. Alongside Wreckless Love, Lesson Learned is one of my favourite songs on Alicia's nearly 4-times platinum selling album As I Am. But to my disappointment, they performed No One. It wasn't a bad performance but it would have been nice to see her perform something else for a change. Vocally, she was sounding like the record and she gets cool points for singing live.

RIHANNA:
I hated Rihanna's dress. It looked like it was made in a corn field. And everyone was rocking her hairstyle that night - from Prince to the fella that she performed with at the end of Don't Stop The Music. The song was also fused in with her monster hit Umbrella. Despite her lack of performance skills, Rihanna made the effort of having choreography near the end which we don't really see. Give her credit people. She's trying!

AMY WINEHOUSE:
Amy Winehouse has been in rehab and is trying to get clean. Her performance was an exceptional one. After a bit of trouble getting a visa, she had to settle with performing live from London. She still looked out of it to me but the performance was a lot better than that tragic Brit Awards performance last year. I still play the hell out of her Back To Black album.

FERGIE:
I thought the song 'Finally' was nice but Fergie was singing a little too hard over a song which would have been best suited to a more subtle but delicate approach. She could always sing so I guess she was displaying what she could do outside of the upbeat pop songs she often likes to put out. John Legend also has great piano skills.

KANYE WEST:
Kanye totally rocked it out during his 'Stronger' performance. Those glow in the dark glasses are pretty cool. But what touched me most of all is when he dedicated 'Hey Mama' to his late mom who died last November. I almost cried. It was soooo sad. Kanye took to singing as he reminisced all the greatest things that his mama did for him in life. It was one of those on-the-edge-of-your-seat moments.

OTHER GRAMMY TIDBITS:
Keyshia Cole looked really hot with black hair. I think she should stick to it. As to why she switched up, I got no idea, but in a recent interview, Mary J Blige says she has NOTHING in common with Keyshia despite their physical likeness and image: "The only reason why people probably compare us, is because we both have a story. That’s about it. As far has her looking like me and wearing her hair like mine, and any time I do something and she does it, as far as I’m concerned that’s about imaging, as far as who she is on the inside, I cant see myself in her". Miaow!

Chris Brown
looked like a right fool in that outfit. He always has to come across as the classified 'nerd' at these Award shows. Why can't he just be himself for once? And if he was being himself, he needs to grow into his maturity. Although he's 18 now, he's still got a lot of growing up to do. I'd still do him something terrible though *wink* Nas and Kelis really were making statements with their 'NIGGER' shirt and jacket. A ploy for attention? Definetely. If they were trying to put out a message there were more respectful ways of doing it. *smh*

Usher
and his beast *cough*, I mean wife, couldn't help playing the loved up couple for the camera's. I also think Rihanna got robbed. She should have won an Award for 'Umbrella'. That was no doubt one of the biggest songs of 2007. Well, that's the Grammy's for you. That show lost its credibility years ago. I am disappointed that Janet Jackson didn't perform. Mary didn't either but I already explained about that.

So who was suppose to be the surprise guest performer? Or was it just a flunk to get people to tune in? Personally, I thought the Grammy Awards was a joke and the show wasn't that great save for a few select performances. They needed Ciara and Chris Brown on that stage. They would have rocked it. But more importantly, they needed Janet.
