This is what I caught in my inbox: I just wanted to tell you that this whole talk concerning Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon (being engaged) is a PR stunt in an attempt to keep Mariah's name in the media. I was having lunch with my homegirl who is a college intern at Def Jam and she gave me the breakdown. She has a new video coming soon for her next single, and Nick is going to play her love interest. Her people are pushing the story of them being an item in hopes that it will keep her album sales up and her name in the press. [Thanks Kevin]. Just like I suspected all along. I mean, isn't she dating Mark Sudack?
I've been hearing for WEEKS now that these two were an item but I brushed it aside because I didn't believe it. I thought that as Nick Cannon was in her forthcoming new video Bye Bye, it must have been some kind of publicity stunt to generate more album sales for the diva. But it looks like those dating rumours are true and that the couple have taken their relationship up a notch - by getting engaged. Say it aint so. Uh huh. IT IS TRUE APPARENTLY.

A source close to Mariah has in deed confirmed the news. Mariah, 38, was seen with Nick, 27, sporting a ring on her finger at the after party for her new film Tennessee in New York. When asked what he loved about Mariah, Nick responded adoringly with the quote: "Everything". WOW. I would not have imagined this in a million years. Does Mariah actually know Nick's reputation with the ladies? He tossed aside beauties such as Kim Kardashian, Christina Milian and Selita Ebanks. In fact, it was only a couple of months ago, he broke off his engagement to Selita. Mariah's engagement bling is 17 carats, with a whopping 10-carat center stone, and made of rare pink and purple diamonds. Nick reportedly bought it for $2.5 million at Jacob & Co. on East 57th Street, where he was spotted again on Tuesday. I need to stress that Nick is also 11 years younger and he just comes across as a young man who likes to explore his options. I wonder if Mariah knows what she's letting herself in for. Things are about to get very interesting in deed.
