Jennifer Hudson recently spoke to The LA Times about some of the songs on her debut album which is set to be released on Sept 30th. In the interview, she name-drops four new songs and describes their nature and what to expect. Check out the worded preview below:
Pocketbook is said to be a super-sassy Timbaland production which features a lascivious rap from Ludacris. It is also mentioned that Pocketbook is a high-energy throwdown. Invinsible is described as a smooth heartbreaker which is helmed by the extremely popular Underdogs. We Gon' Fight is deemed as a gospel-flavored number, but with a futuristic beat. It was produced by Tank [a.k.a. Durrell Babbs]. Lastly, Giving Myself to You is reportedly reminiscent of a classic mid-1980s torch song with Whitney Houston influences.
This just gives us a feel of the tone that is expected from the project. Of course I'm going to need to hear the songs for myself because worded descriptions aren't at all valid enough. The album sounds promising and the aforementioned producers are pretty top notch. As long as the songs sound contemporary and fresh and not dated or horrendously similar to the Dreamgirls soundtrack, I can actually dig it. I personally think 'Spotlight' was a poor choice for first single and Pocketbook, judging by it's description probably would have made for a better choice not to mention, Luda is pretty hot right now.
In other J-Hudness, The Insider reports that presidential candiate Barack Obama has requested that the 26-year-old sing The National Anthem for his democratic nomination acception. Reportedly, the performance is set to take place this coming Thursday. Congrats. That's a huuuge op right there. I just know she's going to kill it with those powerhouse vocals.
