SOLANGE'S 'SOL-ANGEL & THE HADLEY ST. DREAMS' DEBUTS AT.....

....# 9 with 46,000 copies SOLD on the Billboard Album Chart. It should also be noted that her debut album 'Solo Star' which was released in 2003 sold 19,000 copies so she pretty much stepped up although the current sales is still a disappointment. As first week sales aren't reflective of how an album will do overall, there's still hope. 'Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams' is a brilliant album, but in all honesty, I wasn't expecting her to pull major units. As good as the album is, the material just isn't that commercial-savvy....

I still think the fact that she's boxed as Beyonce's little sister before being seen as a legitimate recording artist may have had a profound effect on the sales. People just can't seem to get past that, so they probably just see her as a plastic version of her sister and are wanting the real thing. Ashley Simpson may have successfully came out of her sister's shadow but I don't think Solange is quite there yet. I don't think the luke-warm sales has anything to do with content or promotion (because she had loads). With music not selling as good as it use to, 100k is now seen as standard when that would not have been the case 10 years ago. That number alone would have guaranteed an artist to lose their record deals but today, an artist is considered lucky to even reach those numbers. It's all to do with the changing times of music. What do you think?
